Pillow Talk

There are few quicker, easier ways to give a room a lift than new pillows or linens. A couple cushions or a new set of curtains make the whole room look fresh again, if you choose well.

That’s why I was so delighted when I was recently pointed in the direction of Pillows and Throws.com. They have amazing, graphically glorious linens to delight the eyes and fingers of the most finicky. Alas! Such fine linens in such inventive styles do not come cheap…but a few of them still come at bargain prices in their sale section.

One that caught my eye was this deliciously whimsical chocolate brown and white throw pillow.

Flocked Flower Power Pillow This baby packs a graphic punch that will add pizzazz to any room, but the color remains restful. The flowers are flocked on a linen-textured cotton fabric, and the pillow measures 18″ x 18″.

Originally priced at $56.00, it’s now an affordable $34.99. Isn’t it worth thirty-five bucks to give your room a whole new attitude?

Light of My Life

I have long adored the look of a Tiffany lamp. The jewel-like colors, the warm glow, the graceful lines all delight me. Alas! these fine attributes do not come cheap. The simplest table lamp in the style often costs hundreds of dollars. There are imitation stained ‘glass’ lamps in the same style, but they invariably look cheap, tacky, and fake as hell. I thought I would have to go my entire life without one of these beautiful lamps all because I keep refusing to win the Lotto.

Well, now I can see the lamp of my dreams is within my grasp. A quick glance through the lighting section at Overstock.com showed me dozens of gorgeous real stained glass lamps at insanely low prices. Whether you’re looking for a ceiling fixture, wall sconce, table, or floor lamp, you can find the real deal made using the same techniques Tiffany himself did at a pittance.

What a Pear!

Sometimes you just need a small sparkle to really make your outfit shine. Of course you want that sparkle to show wit, express taste, and not break the bank.

Kenneth Jay Lane Pear Pendant This charming pear pendant by Kenneth Jay Lane comes strung on a 17.5″ gold chain. The pear itself is classic black, but the leaf paved with rhinestones will add a touch of brilliance to any outfit.

Oh, and that bit about not breaking the bank? It’s true that this lovely necklace did sell for $105.00, which wasn’t at all bad to begin with, but now it’s available at Net-A-Porter for just $42.00! Designer jewelry at 60% off? Color me there!

It’s Hip To Be Square

Years ago when I was choosing my day-to-day dishes, I thought long and hard before choosing a set with dark salad plates. I was worried that they would look somber on my table. I feared that they would make me decide never to serve a salad course.

As soon as I used them for the first time, though, I was thrilled to discover there’s nothing like a very dark plate to make a surprising number of foods look their most appetizing. Green salads, yellow summer squash, orange yams, white potatoes, red tomatoes…they all look that much yummier when nestled on my cobalt blue salad plates. In fact, it’s now the white dinner plates I’m more likely to bypass in favor of those lovely dark salad plates that make the food pop in such a delicious way.

I also admit that I really like squares. There’s something solid about them that appeals to me. The fact that most people expect something round on a table doesn’t hurt matters, either.

So imagine my delight on running across this set of Iris square dinneware by Block at cooking.com.

Block Iris Dinnerware The sixteen pieces make up four place settings for your casual dining pleasure. Simple matte lines add elegance to the high gloss finish of a lightly speckled dark blue glaze. They’re also dishwasher and microwave safe.
The suggested retail price for this set is $239.99. Cooking.com usually carries it for $159.95. Right now, however, there’s a blowout, closeout sale and you can be ready to serve four for just $79.99. Just think, a service for eight will still cost you less than the service for four would have cost originally.

That’s my idea of a great idea. Oh, and pass the salad, please.

Nothing says hello to spring and summer quite like a really flirty sundress. This pretty chocolate colored one from T Luxury is on sale at Amazon right now for 40% off the original price.

All That Glitters Is Not Gold

Sometimes it’s a pearlized goldtone resin bracelet by Rachel Leigh.

Goldtone Resin Rachel Leigh Bracelet This dramatic piece is equal parts bold and playful. And it’s a heck of a deal at Bluefly.com.

Originally priced at $140.00, it’s available now for just $84.00. That’s a discount of 40%, which is quite a deal.

Blue Plus Green Equals Fabulous

Blue topaz and peridot make one of the prettiest combinations in the world of gemstones, in my not so humble opinion. Put them together on a pair of earrings, and I’m there. Of course, if you then cut the price I’m there even faster.

Take this gorgeous pair of dangle earrings from Overstock.com. They’re elegant, lightweight, and superfantastic.Blue Topaz and Peridot Earrings They’re also 60% off the original price of $200.00. That means you pay just $79.99 for them. Now that’s the kind of math even I like.

Out Of Pocket

I’ve always loved the look of a pocket watch. There are, however, times when I just don’t have the pockets. That’s why I was so pleased when I spotted this delightful clock at Pottery Barn:

Wall Pocket Watch It can swivel on its wall mount for convenience, and runs on a single AA battery. The face has a 10″ diameter.

Of couse, since it’s here you know it’s a bargain. It’s available only through the website, and it’s marked down from $79.00 to just $39.99.

Catch a Wave

With swim season coming up, a lot of us are looking for new suits. I don’t know about you, but I find myself entranced by this fun and funky Gottex one-piece in a vibrant, Pucci-esque print.

Gottex One Piece Swimsuit It has an interior soft cup shelf bra and flexible side boning for a combination of support and comfort. It’s also fully lined. Oh, and the spaghetti straps are removable if you’re in need of an even tan line.

Best of all, Bluefly.com has it on sale for just $77.00. That’s 40% off the suggested retail price of $128.00.

Espresso Yourself

I love coffee. I love espresso. I sometimes wake up longing to attach myself to an espresso IV…except that I’d rather taste it going in.

One of these days, that means I’m going to have to convince Mr. Twistie that there is room both in the budget and the kitchen to put an espresso machine on the counter. When that day comes, this is the one I want.

Jura-Capresso Espresso Machine Why this one? This Jura-Capresso espresso machine not only looks great, but has the sorts of features I’ve been looking for. It’s programmable, can make eight cups of espresso, has a built in grinder and water filter, and is reassuringly made in Switzerland. With precision instruments, that’s always a good sign.

More than that, the customer revue at Amazon includes the following line:

If you can tie your shoes, you can use one of these machines.

Now that’s what I call reassurance!

If you’ve got some spare cash lying around and a Jones for espresso drinks, this might be a great time to get it, too. Right now, Amazon has it on sale for more than seven hundred dollars off the list price. That means you can get it for just $1,998.00. Now if I could just find that much spare change in the sofa cushions….
