A Map to the Super Fantastic

I’m in a domestic mood of late. I’m reading cookbooks for entertainment, watching interior design shows on cable, and being drawn inexorably to furniture and hardware stores. I wasn’t sure why this was so until this morning when I found myself scouring the Restoration Hardware website and found this.

Turner Map Coffee Table This map chest coffee table is elegant, solid, warm, and – best of all – on sale.

Handcrafted from North American Black Cherry wood, you can choose from a natural cherry finish (shown) or dark cherry finish. Either way, the color will deepen with age and exposure to sunlight.

And did I mention that on sale bit? Because it’s a great sale for a piece bound to become an heirloom. The original price tag was $1,360.00. That’s a price that could send you to meet the ancestors right now! Luckily, you won’t be paying that. Right now this handsome coffee table designed for the ages is on sale for the much more painless price of just $799.99.

Now…if I get that leather sofa, too, and paint the walls of my living room a pale terra cotta….

Be Kind to Your Mother

Mother Earth, that is.

Happy Earth Day!

Today’s bargain comes to you from VivaTerra, a place where Earth Day is celebrated 24/7. They specialize in using sustainable and/or recycled materials to create fabulous goodies to make your life both more practical and more elegant.

Oh yes, both goals can be met simultaneously. If you don’t believe me, take a gander at this:

Helix Stool ($10 surcharge)
This gorgeous piece of carving is the Helix Stool. It’s made of sustainable blond mango wood, finished with oil waxing so that it practically glows. You’re supposed to sit on it, but I might use it as a plinth to display a particularly wonderful piece of art…or I might just sit it in the middle of the room and stare at it all day. It’s more than pretty enough for the purpose.

No matter how you choose to use it, there’s no denying that it’s a heck of a deal right now. Originally priced at $229.00, it’s now a far more wallet-friendly (as well as earth-friendly) $114.00.

Save the earth, save some cash, and save your feet all at the same time. All three are worth it.

Friday Finds Under Fifty: The December Decor Edition

It’s long been one of my best money-saving mantras that the best time to buy new decorations for a holiday is the week after it passes the year before. For instance, today is the perfect time to start shopping for new Christmas decorations (and gifts!) for next year.

Here are a couple examples of the great deals you can get if you hurry:

Glass Ornaments Rocking Horse Ornament Need new ornaments for the tree? Fitz and Floyd is a great place to go. This adorable glass Rocking Horse Ornament usually retails for a cool $38.00, but right now it can be yours for just $9.95.

I Bamboo. Do You Bamboo, Too?

It’s always good to have a few vases around the house. Filled with flowers, they’re a classic addition to any decor. Filled with less expected items like feathers, sticks, dried grasses, or pinwheeels they can lend a touch of opulence or humor to any room. Some even look great just sitting empty on a coffee table or other empty surface.

Of course, to do that a vase has to be a little special.

Bamboo Vase Collection These Bamboo-look vases should do the trick with style to spare. Each 16″ x 5″ x 5″ vase comes with a clear glass insert and is decorated with a hand painted design at the bottom. Choose from Electricity, Forest, or Modern Copper pattern to go with your home, or give in to temptation and get all three. After all, they’re on a terrific sale at Wrapables.com!

Originally priced at $65.95, they’ve been marked down to just $49.99 each. Oh, and if you’re a member of Wrapables’ Rewardables program, each is worth 100 points.
